We caught up with Paddy and had a quick chat with him.

How old were you when you first started martial arts training?

I was 15 when I started training.

What made you want to get into MMA?

I watched Vitor Belfort knock Rich Franklin out and went for a run as soon as it finished at 6AM.

When did you realise you can turn this into a career?

When I started making a bit of noise as an amateur I thought I could make a career but only realised how far I could go when I actually went pro.

When was your first MMA fight?

Had my first fight 15 months into training when I was 16 against a 24 year old.

How did you get your nickname?

My coach Paul Rimmer gave me the nickname in the back when the announcer asked did I have a nickname. He randomly said “Yeah, Paddy the Baddy!”

Did COVID-19 affect your training in anyway?

Yes COVID-19 affected everyone’s training the gym was shit for few months when the pandemic first hit.

How are you preparing for your UFC debut?

Preparing as usual putting 100% effort into it an treating everything scientific as I have done for the past 18 months.

Do you have any inspirational figures or role models you look up to?

My dads my biggest role model always will be, then my coach Paul Rimmer.

Who’s your favourite fighter past or present?

I’d say it is Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira aka Big Nog, loved him as a fighter. 

So far what has been your career highlight?

Winning the title in front of my home crowd was probably the best feeling I’ve ever had in the cage.

What do you hope to achieve in the UFC?

I’m going to be a world champion in the UFC double champ if I get the chance.
